The 1994 release of Jimmy Page and Robert Plant's "No Quarter" or "Unledded" was part of the MTV unplugged series. It is not a Led Zeppelin reunion, but there are plenty of guest musicians who shine, including Najma Akhtar on vocals and the Egyptian Ensemble, Musicians in Marrakech and the London Metropolitan Orchestra.
Rather than trot out the hits, Page and Plant chose lesser known and acoustic-based tunes, especially from LZIII, and did some significant reworking of songs like "Nodbody's Fault But Mine" and "Kashmir." The result is multi-textured and organic, with an outside feeling.
"Nobody's Fault But Mine" has a country flair, and although Plant's voice sounds strained, he makes up for it with effort.
"Thank You" is a love pledge ballad, and Plant's vocal in a lower register sounds better here.
"No Quarter" is really missing John Paul Jones. Page's guitar playing gets a bit creaky, but overall this song is effectively haunting.

"Friends" brings in some of the traditional North African instrumentation, along with acoustic guitar, and with this number the musicians start to sound more comfortable and relaxed.
"Yallah" is one of three new songs here, with soaring vocals by Plant, strong percussion and an exotic feel sounds like one staring into the desert at sunset.
"City Don't Cry" features more North African instrumentation, a one chord rhythm with strong percussion, and strong vocals from Plant and the backing singers.
"Since I've Been Loving You" seems kind of out of place as the only blues number on the disk, but Page's soloing is crisp and Plant shows some howl. Strings on the blues?
"The Battle of Evermore" is one of the standout tracks, with the instrumental backing, mandolins and outstanding female duet with Plant.
"Wonderful One" is ballad where Plant and Page weave their magic of vocals and guitars.
"That's the Way" is one of my all time favorite songs, and this version does not disappoint. Guitars and banjos and some of the most heartfelt lyrics Page and Plant ever wrote.
"Gallows Pole" is a great acoustic number from LZIII that gets a nice treatment here, especially when it picks up tempo and the other instruments join in.
"Four Sticks" also stands out in this set. It's one of the more obscure tunes from LZIV, but the rapidly strummed guitars, strings and especially the percussion make this an outstanding performance.
"Kashmir" fits the organic, exotic theme of this set perfectly, and while Bonham's physical presence is missed, he's there in spirit. The orchestra playing is excellent, and there are some nice surprises.

1. Nobody's Fault But Mine
2. Thank You
3. No Quarter
4. Friends
5. Yalla
6. City Don't Cry
7. Since I've Been Loving You
8. The Battle of Evermore
9. Wonderful One
10. That's the Way
11. Gallows Pole
12. Four Sticks
13. Kashmir

I was thrilled when this DVD became available recently and I bought one right away, since this performance has not been available until now on DVD.

Peter Frampton gives an enthusiastic and energetic performance. Being a casual fan, I liked the hit songs, "Show Me the Way," "Nassau/Baby I Love Your Way," "Do You Feel Like We Do?" and "I'm in You." On "Do You Feel Like We Do?" a female fan runs up and kisses PF and he is pleasantly surprised by that interruption.

Frampton's band is excellent; the keyboardist and bassist have both been with him for a long time. Frampton only plays his signature black Les Paul on a number of the songs, the lovely "Lines of My Face" and the solo on "Do You Feel Like We Do?" He plays different guitars throughout the set, a sunburst Les Paul, a Telecaster, and other Gibson guitars.

The Blind Boys of Alabama have spread the spirit and energy of pure soul gospel music for over 60 years, ever since the first version of the group formed at the Alabama Institute for the Negro Blind in 1939. Today, founding members Clarence Fountain, Jimmy Carter and George Scott joined by more recent arrivals Joey Williams, Ricky McKinnie, Bobby Butler, and Tracy Pierce are on a mission to expand the audience for traditional soul-gospel singing while incorporating contemporary songs and innovative arrangements into their hallowed style.

In December 2003, the band came to New York City to perform a special holiday concert at the famed Beacon Theater with Aaron Neville, John Medeski, Duke Robillard, Chrissie Hynde, Mavis Staples, Michael Franti (Spearhead), Robert Randolph (Sacred Steel player), and Charlie Musselwhite (Blues harmonica icon). This show aired on PBS in December 2004 as part of their pledge drive with the individual band members appearing in pledge breaks.

IS THIS FILM ABOUT JANIS JOPLIN ?

In this authentic, entertaining, and tragic film, Bette Midler plays Rose, a talented but exhausted, alcoholic rock star whose entire life is controlled by her cutthroat manager, Rudge (Alan Bates). Taking a bleak look at the downside of the music industry, THE ROSE chronicles the precipitous fall of this fictional rock & roll diva (modeled after Janis Joplin) as she nears a concert date in her home town that she hasn't been to in years. Pulled down by raging alcoholism and drug addiction, as well as her own insecurities, Rose's life begins to deteriorate to the point of complete self-destruction, all the while begging Rudge for a break in her grueling tour schedule. This raw, uncompromising, witty, and ultimately heartbreaking film includes several incredible musical performances by Midler in actual concert settings. THE ROSE is Midler's first role as an actress, and she embodies the alternately frenetic, worn-out, enraged, and sweetly insecure star with an almost inconceivable power, especially when interacting with her love, the faithfully adoring Dyer

THE ROSE was originally titled THE JANIS JOPLIN STORY.

Director Mark Rydell originally envisioned Bette Midler, whom he had seen performing in New York, for the role of Rose, but the studio turned him down. Years later, the project fell under his control again, and he got the go ahead to use Midler.

For the concert sequences, Rydell staged an actual live concert with an audience of extras in period garb. Midler performed all of the numbers several times over, wowing the audience, who had no idea who she was.

All of the music in the film was recorded live, with no prerecorded music used.

I got this video almost 9 years ago (it's been awhile). I mainly wanted it because I had seen some of the videos for the "Rhythm Nation" album on TV before, but not all of them. When I was finally able to watch it (we had to get a new VCR), I was not disappointed. After all these years, this is still my favorite videotape to watch. Every video on it is unique in its own way. From the serious mood of "Rhythm Nation" to the slow jam "Come Back To Me" and the playful "Escapade," you see Janet at her best. My favorite song is "Escapade," and the video compliments it well. "Alright" is simply a tight video. One of my favorites. And who can forget "Love Will Never Do (Without You)"? We got a glimpse of the sexy Janet that we now know today. If you are a Janet fan, and "Rhythm Nation" is your favorite album, then GET THIS TAPE! You will not be disappointed! I still have to get the Design of a Decade and Janet videos, but the Rhythm Nation Compilation definitely satisfies my Janet cravings!

Coming behind the coattails of legendary brothers, the youngest Jackson had to carve out her distinctive niche.

And, man, did "Miss Jackson" do just that. Saddled with two of the hottest producers in the business, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Jackson released the landmark album "Rhythm Nation 1814" in 1989 and the critics and the public went wild. The platinum-selling album spawned no less than seven hit singles, all with accompanying videos that only added to their success.

This video compilation is the perfect "trip down memory lane" as Jackson and her superb troupe of dancers prance, shimmy, grind, and cavort to the title cut, "Miss You Much", "Love Will Never Do (Without You)", "Alright" (with guest performances from Cyd Charisse, the Nicholas Brothers, Cab Calloway, and Heavy D), "Escapade" with its carnival influences", "Black Cat", "Lonely", and "Come Back to Me" with its Parisian background.

Top-notch direction from Dominec Sena, Peter Smillie, Julian Temple, Wayne Isham and the late Herb Ritts allowed the singer to shine as only she could in each mini-spectacle.

As Simon Cowell would have put it, it really sounds like a horrific version of karaoke, let alone cabaret that you wouldn't want to sit in and listen on. Wouldn't even recommend it for a deaf person. That would be so cruel. It is not performed by any of the original artists, nor is it a good cover band version of any of the popular hits!

But now if ya wanna sit around and hear 80's music reproduced in a damn laughable fashion here's your set !

Live at Humphrey's by the Bay is Jewel's first concert disc, and it's a solid success, a blend of signature material and hints of forward progress. Shot just before her 2002 "This Way" tour, the program begins with a startling reminder of Jewel's beautiful pipes on the a cappella "Per La Gloria D'Adorarvi." That protean voice slides gracefully into her whispery and carnal octave-jumper, "Near You Always," adopts a witty, talking blues attitude on "Sometimes It Be That Way," and paints in nocturnal hues for "Grey Matter." Jewel is solo for most of the set, contributing to the sometimes airless feel of her prolific broken-love songs. But "The New Wild West" is an imagistic, extroverted wonder, and "Everybody Needs Someone Sometime" is sassy and shimmering.
Shot over two performances on a summer night just before the launch of her ©¯This Way©˜ tour,"Live at Humphrey's By the Bay" is Jewel's first ever Live Concert DVD. Remixed and Mastered to Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround, DTS Surround and Dolby Stereo, "Live at Humphrey's By the Bay©˜ captures the true essence of this Multi-platinum singer/songwriter's decade long career. With album sales topping 25 million, "Live at Humphrey's By the Bay" includes all of Jewel©ˆs signature songs including Hands, Everything Breaks Sometime, and You Were Meant For Me and brings you a front row seat in an intimate setting by one of the greatest artists of our generation
