Varney the Vampire; Or, the Feast of Blood - Rymer, James Malcolm

Sold for a penny a chapter on the streets of London in 1845, "Varney the Vampire"
is a milestone of vampire fiction, yet ignored and overlooked for nearly 100 years.

Varney the Vampire; or, The Feast of Blood was a mid-Victorian era
serialized gothic horror story by James Malcolm Rymer
(alternatively attributed to Thomas Preskett Prest), which first a
ppeared 1845–47 as cheap pamphlets referred of the kind then referred
to as "penny dreadfuls". The story was published in book form in 1847.
It is of epic length: the original edition ran to 868 double columned
pages divided into 220 chapters. It altogether it totals nearly 667,000
words. Despite its inconsistencies, Varney the Vampire is more or less
a cohesive whole. It introduced many of the tropes present in vampire
fiction recognizable to modern audiences to this day.

This gory prequel captures the wild, anything-can-happen spirit of the original FROM DUSK TILL DAWN, even reproducing the first film's memorable closing shot. It avoids feeling like a mere rerun, however, by cleverly taking place nearly 100 years ago, around the turn of the century on the Texas-Mexico border. There a legendary outlaw gang, husband-and-wife evangelists, a village executioner's runaway daughter and real-life macabre author Ambrose Bierce (Parks), their assorted posses and pursuers wind up at the raucous, timeless, vampire-run saloon that ties these flicks together. Midway through, the motley characters must forget their quarrels and fight ferociously for their lives after the hideous bloodsuckers drop their disguises and begin to feast. The origin of one of FROM DUSK TILL DAWN's most memorable characters is revealed--even though actress Salma Hayek is replaced by unknown lookalike Celi--and fans of this series will drink it up, as well other undead westerns like SUNDOWN: THE VAMPIRE IN RETREAT.

This is where the television series began and picks up more or less
where the movie left off. You can start here, you don't need to have

powers that enables them to fight the supernatural in all their

Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) has been brought from her old
school (in the movie) to the town of Sunnydale by her mother for a new
start, unfortunately it turns out that as luck (or design would have
it), Sunnydale is built on a gate to hell called the Hellmouth. This
sets the premise for the show, in that frequently various monsters are
attracted to the presence of the Hellmouth and cause all kinds of
mayhem each week.

This tape is the first two episodes of the first
series. It introduces and brings the major characters together for the
first time: Rupert Giles (Anthony Stewart Head), Buffy's new watcher
and doubling (as cover) as the school librarian, Xander (Nicholas
Brendon) and Willow (Alyson Hannigan), two of the people so far on the
outer of the in crowd they might as well be in another solar system
and Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter), very much part of the in crowd and
someone that the rest of the group continually cross swords

In Guillermo del Toro's BLADE II, Wesley Snipes reprises his role as the part-human, part-vampire superhero based on the comic book character. Following a trail of blood that leads to Prague, Blade (aka the Daywalker) slays a legion of bloodsuckers in the search for his abducted mentor, Whistler (Kris Kristofferson). Soon Blade reluctantly joins forces with a band of skilled vampiric warriors called the Bloodpack to hunt down an even deadlier enemy--the monstrous Reapers, who prey on vampires and humans alike, infecting them with an incurable virus. In addition to battling these relentless new foes, Blade must deal with situations brought about by the Bloodpack's tenuous alliance --in particular, his attraction to the lovely Nyssa (Leonor Varela) and his rivalry with the brutish Reinhardt (Ron Perlman). A hyperkinetic motion picture, BLADE II literally explodes onto the screen with hi-tech weaponry and stunning special effects. The fight sequences, choreographed by Hong Kong superstar Donnie Yen (who plays Bloodpack member Snowman), are remarkably hard-hitting and elaborate. The film also improves on the entertaining original by adding a darker, more visceral tone that's fleshed out by del Toro's stylish and brilliantly grotesque visuals. Both frightening and thrilling, BLADE II is sure to astound both horror and action fans alike.
